This Bible Study course was initiated by Fr Sunny John SVD, director of Mater Dei Pastoral Centre in 2008, with the first graduation ceremony held in 2010. This year marks the 15th graduation ceremony of the Bible Study course,the graduation ceremony was held on Saturday November 8 at Mater Dei Pastoral Centre.
The ten-month study programme starts in January each year and ends in October, one full weekend per month followed by the graduation ceremony held in November of each year. Thus far, the Centre has conferred certificates to over 600 graduates with the latest course having 39 graduates. The study is not only meant for students from the Catholic Diocese of Polokwane but also open for everyone. This year saw an increased number of students from Johannesburg, Pretoria, Tzaneen and Witbank dioceses as well as a number of religious sisters registered for this course.
At the end of each course His Lordship Right Reverend Bishop Jeremiah Masela of the Catholic diocese of Polokwane awards completion certificates to the graduates preceded by Holy Mass.
The community gathered for a meal following the spiritual festivities. There were plenty of hearty dishes, joyful conversations and excitement on the tables.
